Reading Coaches for Kids

Reading Coaches for Kids is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students reading abilities and academic success. The program is held during the school year for students primarily  in kindergarten through third grades. Volunteers work one-on-one with students or in small groups.

All training and materials are provided by Reading Coaches for Kids. Prior teaching experience is not required.

In the 2010/11 school year, Reading Coaches for Kids volunteers had 14,734 contacts with students in Green Bay area Public Schools. They provided over 4,462 hours of tutoring in 18 elementary schools.

End of the year evaluations are completed by the teachers, tutors, and students. Program comments include:

Tutor comment- “I wish more people would become involved with this program. It is a great program to help the children-our future voters- to improve academically and personally. This is such an important and rewarding program.”

Teacher comment- “Students who often struggled to stay on task were, typically more focused with their Reading Coach and enjoyed the one-on-one support. It also provided struggling readers an opportunity to complete their independent work or read a book they would struggle with by themselves.”
