Reading Coaches for Kids

Reading Coaches for Kids is a volunteer tutoring program designed to increase students reading abilities and academic success. The program is held during the school year for students primarily  in kindergarten through third grades. Volunteers work one-on-one with students or in small groups.

  • In 2006 Reading Coaches assisted 930 students to further develop their reading skills. Volunteers provided over 2,600 hours of service to children at 14 elementary schools in Brown County. However, more classrooms are in need of tutors.
  • Teachers and principals have indicated that students increase their reading abilities and develop better work habits and self-esteem, when tutored by a Reading Coaches volunteer.

All training and materials are provided by Reading Coaches for Kids. Prior teaching experience is not required.
Due to limited staffing of this program, new Reading Coaches can not be added at this time. Interested individuals can contact the Volunteer Center to be placed on a waiting list or receive information on other volunteer opportunities related to education and youth.
