Community Volunteer Program

The goal of the Community Volunteer Program is to mobilize community members between the ages of 9 and 54 to effectively address serious social problems through citizen involvement. The program connects over 12,000 people annually with volunteer opportunities in nearly 200 community agencies. People can volunteer as individuals, families, groups, businesses, and service clubs.

Services provided by the Community Volunteer Program include:

  • Connecting people with both on-going and short-term opportunities through a wide variety of information sources.
  • Customizing volunteer projects for schools, churches, and business groups.
  • Orchestrating the Wisconsin Public Service Volunteer Awards, a community-wide volunteer recognition event.
  • Mobilizing thousands of volunteers for several “National Days of Service”, including:
    • Martin Luther King Day - January
    • National Youth Service - April
    • Join Hands Day - May
    • Make A Difference Day - October

The Volunteer Center also works with agencies that utilize volunteers, providing training and consultations on issues such as recruiting, managing, and retaining volunteers.

  • Supporting businesses and corporations that are setting up or strengthening existing employee volunteer programs.
  • Providing consultation to non-profit organizations regarding “best practices” of volunteer management maintaining a Volunteer Resource Library.
  • Maintaining the Volunteer Management Resource Library.
